Holiday Hand to Hand market!

Today me and Anna (Blissful Whimsy) participated in the Hand to Hand Holiday market! It was located in a beautiful space on the second story of Bin 33 downtown. There were 28 amazing vendors, and Anna and I felt honored to be among them. It was an absolutely fantastic day! Like a big holiday shopping party, it was awesome, a perfect celebration of local art and business mingling.

Beautiful, handmade moccasins

I love moccasins, and recently I've discovered these amazing ones from http://www.darlingtoniamoccasins.com/
not only are these moccasins the loveliest I've ever seen, they are entirely handmade by a lovely lady right here in the US. Of course they're a bit pricey compared to mainstream shoes, but they're also handmade. Now saving up and plotting a purchase.

I spent an afternoon with a dear friend yesterday putting bits of pink in the front of her hair. it looks absolutely lovely and it's making me crave some pink hair of my own...

chocolate cookies

i set out to make some cookies with no refined sugar and a bit more nutritional value than your average cookie and i came up with these...they are absolutely delicious! a bit more fragile than your typical cookie, but if you need them to hold up better, you could use less almond meal and more flour. i imagine a minute in a plastic baggie tucked into a tote bag and these would be a bag of crumbs! for my part, i enjoy the delicate texture and will just refrain from traveling with these guys.

blend together:
1/2 cup almond meal
1/2 cup all purpose flour(i used gluten free, obviously)
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
stir in:
1 egg
1/4 cup oil or butter(i used coconut oil)
1 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla

drop by the teaspoon full onto a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 8 or 9 minutes(don't over bake, the honey will scorch quicker than typical sugar would)
cool and enjoy!

raspberry thumprint cookies!

i love love love thumbprint cookies! and these are extra awesome because not only are they gluten free and vegan(depending on your standards, they do have honey), but they are also free of refined sugar!
i know you must now be asking, "amy, how can i, too, make these morsels of goodness and delight?" so here is the recipe

2/3 cup honey
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour(i used king athur's gluten free all purpose baking mix)
a itty bitty pinch of baking soda

blend all your dry ingredients together...you may use a bit more or less flour depending on if you are using wheat flour or gf flour, i imagine. basically you just want it to feel like typical shortbread dough. roll tsp sized dollops of dough into little balls and create little dips with your thumb or finger. FILL WITH DELICIOUS JELLY! I used a great jelly from a brand called Crofters, it's free of gelatin and free of refined sugar, and truly just made of fruit, it's called "Just Fruit Organic Spread" in Raspberry, obviously.
Bake on an ungreased baking sheet at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes. don't over bake, they'd definitely dry out.
let cool and enjoy!

may first friday indie market

the may indie market was awesome. a bit chillier than i anticipated, hence the scarf and jacket, but awesome nonetheless.
it's pathetic it's taken me a month to post about it, but alas, here we are.

records

my little record collection is one of my very favorite things. nothing really beats the experience of placing a vinyl record on a turntable and setting the needle on it's spinning surface. music is so wonderful and listening to records lends a magic and warmth that other audio forms just do not have.

pink cupcakes

made some gluten free strawberry cupcakes the other day. they're cute as imaginable and taste delish as well.

april indie market

i was not at the indie market this month, but my friend anna was, and it was her first time! she really is so talented and makes the cutest things, and i think she did well! unfortunately it was chilly and damp on april first this year, which i'm sure deterred some people from coming out, i hung out with anna at her table for a while, and we were freeeeeezing. so hopefully next month it will be warmer and there will be even more foot traffic!

little owls

i've been making lots of these little guys lately.

and i can't stop wearing them. what could be more awesome then a cute little owl brooch pinned to a cowl scarf or a cardigan? few things, my friends, few things. i'm hoping to be at the downtown indie market in may, so if all goes well i'll be selling them there!

stuffed peppers!

i spent an afternoon this past sunday making vegetarian stuffed peppers with a friend of mine, this was her first time making stuffed peppers without meat and she was delighted to find she didn't miss it at all! they were super delicious. we stuffed the red peppers with black beans, rice, peppers, onions and of course lots of oregano and basil and a little parsley. topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked to perfection, they were absolutely scrumptious.
